Attorneys in our Washington office provide a range of client services, with a focus in the areas of employment relations, employment litigation and employee benefits. Our Washington attorneys represent clients in all aspects of employment relations, including day-to-day counseling, development of employment policies, business ethics and corporate compliance tools, handbooks, contracts and advising on corporate employment strategies, such as non-compete agreements, staffing plans and reduction in force planning. In addition, we defend management in employment litigation in local and federal courts and before federal and local administrative agencies, including the EEOC, NLRB, Department of Labor, and the District of Columbia Office of Human Rights.

Our Washington employee benefits attorneys provide advice and assistance to both for-profit and non-profit employers on a variety of employee benefits issues, both retirement and welfare. In the non-profit sector, we advise a number of church denominational benefit programs on the unique benefits issues presented by the church plan environment. Our attorneys also have excellent contacts with the various federal agencies dealing with employee benefits (Treasury, Department of Labor, or the PBGC) and they also keep the firm’s clients abreast of the important employee benefit legislative developments on the Hill.

The Washington, D.C. office also serves energy clients in administrative proceedings, particularly before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, as well as related intrastate issues before the applicable state commission and in appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. This representation includes hearings before FERC administrative law judges, as well as general litigation and alternative dispute resolution. In addition, the office provides environmental legal services, including due diligence for acquisitions and real estate development and climate change and regulatory and legislative proposals.
